Opportunities: Aktiv werden! Here are some of the "Möglichkeiten" and "Aktivitäten" you'll find at Virginia Tech (and beyond) that can help you get involved in the German language and culture. Don't hesitate to contact us if you want more information or advice on becoming active in German studies and university-sponsored events. Study AbroadLiving and working in a German-speaking land is -- outside of taking classes at Virginia Tech -- one of the best ways to familiarize yourself with the people, their language, and the customs of that country. One of the German section's top priorities is to inform students of a wide range of study abroad oppportunities and help those interested to find suitable placements and funding for these endeavors. Make an appointment to speak with one of our faculty and/or take a look at some of the study abroad resources we're collecting on our website. Click here for more information about study abroad.
German ListservSign up for the German Listserv if you want to receive announcements about about the events of the German section at VT (such as film evenings, Stammtisch, and German Club meetings, for instance) and general information about German culture and events in the region and beyond. Just contact Dr. Stefanie Hofer (hofer@vt.edu) and your email address will be added to our mailing list. StammtischAre you looking for a good way to practice German (or speak your native language!) in a fun and relaxing setting with a group of "Gleichgesinnten?" Come out and get together with us for the weekly Virginia Tech Stammtisch. Everyone -- regardless of his or her experience/proficiency with the language -- is welcome! Contact: Contact: Amanda Daquila (adaquila@vt.edu) Click here for more information, dates/times, and location! German Culture ClubThe Virginia Tech German Culture Club is an organization of university students who share an interest in all things German. It is truly a student-led group, whose members are responsible for conducting club meetings, organizing cultural and recreational events, and encouraging active participation in the community. Recent activities have included evenings of German "Essen" (food), Spiele (games), and Gespräch (discussion). Club meetings take place in the Cranwell International Center. Contact: Dr. Esther Bauer (bauere@vt.edu). Sign up for the German Listserv for more information.
