From time to time students come to Virginia Tech with experience in the International Baccalaureate. These students have taken language courses of the following types:
Language A1: a language and literature course in the student’s native or best language including the study of selections from world literatures
Language A2: a language and literature course for native speakers or for speakers with a high level of proficiency in the target language
Language B: a foreign language program for students with no previous experience in learning the target language
Language ab initio: a foreign language program for students with no previous experience in learning the target language.
Their IB Courses are classified at these levels of intensity:
Higher level: minimum of 240 teaching hours
Subsidiary/standard level: minimum 150 teaching hours
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students are only awarded VT credit if they earned an IB Diploma, not an IB Certificate. Please see the VT registrar page that details the IB equivalents accepted by the university: http://www.registrar.vt.edu/registration/tests_for_credit.php.
The students may have acceptable grades of:
4 Satisfactory
5 Good
6 Very Good
7 Excellent
Virginia Tech credit will be awarded as follows for a grade of 4,5,6, or 7 for Language B:
