Aarnes Gudmestad is an Assistant Professor of Spanish in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Virginia Tech. She specializes in second language acquisition and sociolinguistics, and her research explores the intersection of the two fields. She has recently published articles on subjunctive selection in second-language Spanish and clitic climbing in Caracas Spanish. Her current research projects include examinations of the relationship between native-speaker and second-language variation of morphosyntactic structures, as well as interlanguage analyses of variable mood use. She teaches courses in Spanish language, Hispanic linguistics, and applied linguistics.
